Syncrude Project Design services for this 2 km oil sand conveyor included: Mechanical Design and Forensic Testing. CDI predicted the shaft failure at the locking device interface, as shown in the images above. Belt flexure testing and rolling resistance measurement machines were also used in the Syncrude project, and CDI developed our first Rheological model of rubber to assist with the analysis. This model became the basis of CDI's rubber mechanics model conveyor power consumption.
